An Apple

It doesn't quite look like oil lift out, but I think it is interesting.

DI: Illustration Friday

This will be the first week that the digital illustration class will be participating in Illustration Friday. Since we are just getting started and some of the students are just beginning to learn the computer, they can choose how they will complete the assignment. I want them to use the computer as much as possible, for some of the students that will mean a "traditional" illustration scanned into the computer.

The deadline for the students is Wednesday before 4:00pm. I have their blogs listed as links under Digital Illustration Class. Please take a look and give them some feed back.

Linear perspective in Adobe Illustrator

Using Adobe Illustrator draw 2 cubes in correct two-point perspective in a room, with cast shadows.

Learning to use the pen tool in Illustrator opens many doors in Photoshop and so that is where we will start the digital illustration class. Use linear perspective to construct the cubes, with vanishing points (vp), measuring points (mp), station point (sp), and light source.

As always, pay attention to the composition.

Digital Illustration Class: Day 1

This semester I am teaching a digital illustration class that I have taught many times before. What will be different about this class is that the students will be posting their work along the way. I am really excited to see how the students progress.

Today was the first day. I decided to have them post their work on a blog so that they can begin to be seen by the illustration world and see what others are doing. Each student created a blog today and they will begin posting to their blogs soon.

This class is taught much like a media experimentation class where we will experiment with the kinds and varieties of marks that we can make with our tools. The students will do a simple still life to demonstrate that they understand the process. Then we will be using the word from Illustration Friday to create an illustration using the process that they just learned. Then they can make comments on each others work.

I am really interested to see how this experiment works. I will post links to the student blogs within the next couple of days.
